Greetings Family & Friends -
It has been nearly two months since my second surgery and I feel great! It has just been a complete 180 from where I was at a this time a year ago. In March 2007 I spent a week in the hospital, but now in March 2008 I'm feeling like the old Tom again. At this point last year I was taking somewhere between 25-30 pills a day, but now I am taking 0 pills a day. I have been feeling just remarkable, especially compared to the way I had been feeling. I am regaining a social life, becoming more active, and just learning to have fun again.
On July 20, 2008 I plan to run in a half-marathon sponsored by the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. The race takes place in Napa, California. In order to participate I need to raise $3800 which will go towards finding a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
There are two main reasons that I wish to participate in this race:
1. I want to help find a cure for ulcerative colitis so nobody else in this world has to go through the living hell that I experienced for over a year. It was by far the worst period of my life and nobody should be forced to endure that kind of suffering.
2. I want the personal satisfaction of being able to cross the finish line at the race and say to myself, "I'm healthy again." I couldn't have dreamed of doing anything this physically challenging while I was fighting my battle with colitis. Oftentimes I had to lay down on the couch because I didn't have enough energy to even sit up. Crossing that finish line will be the culmination of the toughest journey of my life. It will be the end of the colitis era for me, allowing me to know in my heart that I have beaten this awful disease.
Please check out www.tommeersman.com There you can find information about my struggle with colitis and also place a donation to help me accomplish my goals of finding a cure for colitis and reaffirming my status as a healthy person. Please donate anything you can to help this great cause. Also feel free to pass this information along to any friends or family members that you think may be interested.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support in helping me regain the stability of good health. I appreciate all the kind words and the inquiries on my current status. It means the world to me. Now I just hope that together we can find a cure for colitis so no one will ever have to suffer from it again. Colitis put my butt through a world of pain, now it's time to kick colitis's butt!
A big thank you to everybody, for everything.
